ectrims-histThe European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) has been the world’s leading organization dedicated to MS for more than 30 years.

ECTRIMS15 was held in Barcelona. Among the presentations was an insight into promising MS therapies. Read more about it here.

While the organization was founded in 1985, the first major ECTRIMS congress was held in 1996 in Copenhagen with just 800 delegates. Now in its 32nd congress, ECTRIMS is expecting 9,000 delegates to attend the London, England, venue next week. Most of the congresses have been held in Europe, but there are a few exceptions. Joining forces with ACTRIMS — its U.S. and Canadian counterpart — ECTRIMS held congresses in Baltimore in 2002, Montreal in 2008, and Boston in 2014. The two organizations have since agreed to hold joint congresses every three years.

As well as hosting congresses, ECTRIMS also hosts other scientific meetings, including focused workshops, summer schools and regional teaching courses.

The mission of ECTRIMS is simple: to improve basic and clinical research and clinical outcomes in multiple sclerosis, all of which could one day lead to a cure.

This year, Multiple Sclerosis News Today will offer daily follow-up coverage of the 2016 annual European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) congress Sept. 14-17 in London.

Watch an exclusive Multiple Sclerosis News Today interview with top MS researcher Dr. Andrew Chan at ECTRIMS15.
