Of course – mice studies r only a poss. indication. They often don’t work on us lot.

Trehalose is flogged as a ‘natural sweetener’ but then so is sugar. And it only became economic to refine from corn starch by a Japanese process invented circa 2ooo!

    Hi Micki & Lysi

It’s John, your friendly neighborhood moderator here.

I’m afraid Micki am about to drizzle on your neurologist’s parade. This recent study shows there seems to ne no benefit. It’s explained on the UK MS website in easier to understand journalese dated March 11, 2020.

I’m more than sure that our own news team were also on the case!

I take an inordinate amount of supplements on the off chance that even one might do me some good!. That col is from Feb 2018! If anything I take more now – researching for this job does tend to keep me on top of the latest research!!

Still take the Biotin I’ve got left – the blurb on the packaging states: ‘Support for Healthy Hair, Skin & Nails’.

    I’m going for ‘Luxurious’!

Mary Batte says: John Connor, must have missed this. Fun these days is an illusive commodity so maybe that’s why low response. I was diagnosed in the early 80’s. Did not stop us from RV’ing in almost every state in the union and many of the Canadian provinces. I would tire sometimes and we’d simply hang out for a few days and then back on the road. Did the warmer states in the cooler months. All can be adjusted.

Then I discovered beautiful fabric and the art of quilting. Which is so much fun for me.

Now, anytime we can be outside in nature is absolutely the best whether it be on our deck or by a river. Don’t move like we use to but being outdoors is still the best. We are now looking for a home with single floor. What’s next? I want a garden.
I’m like John, what are you doing for fun right now and what are you looking forward to? What’s next??

John Connor replies: Ta Mary, for fulsome reply.
Yes, watch endless TV. ‘Schitt’s Creek’ which have raved about in the ‘Fun’ Forum just swept the Emmy’s’ There’s a scintilla of the ‘critic’ left in me….

Yokum says: Here are some of the things I do: play Spider on the computer, work jigsaw puzzles on the computer, write an essay/rumination every month, garden, bake, make yogurt and jam, mow grass. Here’s what I try to do (but no longer do very well) embroider, sew, play piano, draw. Here’s what I never do: clean house, wash windows (boring). Watching TV/movies gives me a headache. Always has.

Here’s another thing I do: read what John Connor writes.

    Hi Lisa

Ocrevus was by far my fave DMT until I could no longer have it due to my low leukocyte level. Reckon Lemtrada first began that damage.

Still did feel better on it…

    Good luck

    Hi Collette

Ta for asking – I’ve been trying to get a debate started on CBD for something like six months.

I dearly thank you for joining in.

Mainly because there’s few scientific studies yet that prove it as useful. Of course. as with all science other evidence may well come along. And there’s also this study which is very dubious about CBD.

The New York Times also did an article about the whole thing last year.
What Are the Benefits of CBD?

Admittedly, you can find anything on the net to back up your own argument! Oh dear, that’s undermined mine!

The reason I feel this way is that I used CBD for months. I researched and found what is a good product. It is far more expensive than the real thing. And the real thing actually works!

    Cheers John

  • Unfortunately Anacardic Acid is in the shell of the cashew! Oh dear, never mind. Got exited without reading the sources!

You’ll never find a cashew nut with a shell on it. As each one has to be taken off and an acidic and treacly substance then has to be stripped off each nut by hand. This is great for labor employment in the developing world. The downside is the terrible effect it has on the workers hands!

    Hi Brad
    Ta for replying mate.
Unfortunately as far as I know it does!
It can go into abeyance for a while but then nabs you.
From the net research I’ve done the most worrying aspect is that the mylein on the neurons themselves are being attacked!
Talk to your Doctor or Neurologist and get some special pain meds in – you’ll need them! The pain takes a completely different route. The best is oxcarbazepine.
Even though I’d had MS for 7 years and by that time had become a columnist on this site it came as a complete shock to me! Do love word play.
Think I’ve now written 3 cols about it:
    The Mouth that Roared
    Don’t Turn Anything Down!

    With grit.

On days like today when I’m relatively OK, despite my MS, feel cool. Despite all the other ailments MS throws at me. Sure it does the same to many of you.

Depending on how ill I am – often get crabby/snappy with my family! Lucky, to still have one.

Always wanted to write the great novel – released years ago didn’t have the talent. Hey, but now I can blame the old MS.

I read about the roots of this ages ago. The incidence of MS was much lower in places in Africa where parasites were active. Of course, it’s also nearer the equator where there is less incidence of MS. Presumably because of the higher incidence of Vitamin D from sunlight.

My latest column ‘A Morning With No Opera but Enough for a Small Choir!‘
deals with one hectic day of Social Services descending on me interspersed with a police drama outside.
I went for a convoluted headline relating to a Marx Brothers film – this time I’ve gone for a little know track from one of the the greatest albums ever ‘What a Day That Was‘ from ‘Stop Making Sense’ by Talking Heads.
    Pretentious – moi?
What hectic days with MS have you had?

    Hi Ed & hello Collette
Practically every study I’ve flagged up or read about seems to be tested on mice! I’ve highlighted this recent study before questioning the validity of all mice research on us humans.
So as much as I agree with your valid skepticism Ed – think my MS advancement has me now grasping at straws. Despite the plastic ones being terrible for the environment! x
PS Counter with Tom Petty ‘This Old Town’ – admittedly only mention of rodents is ‘Rats to Kill’ but love his music.

So, I’ve given it a go.
I take a myriad of supplements that might possibly help MS.

March 13, 2020 at 4:05 pm in reply to: Should I Worry More About Coronavirus if I Have MS?

    Well, I’m in hiding!

Gave up working in London two weeks ago though in truth the  show I run has just been cancelled  next week for poor ticket sales. The first time in its nearly 30 year history.

Ironically the only time we’ve ever cancelled the show well in advance is when the night clashed with the England footie team fixtures in  either the World or European Cup. The English football authorities have today stopped all elite football.

I have a severely compromised immune system. To an extent as I work in news satire I went to ground relatively early.

Every human is a threat – I have mail but I won’t open it for three days.

    Paranoia is now sensible!

March 11, 2020 at 12:16 pm in reply to: More considerations about COVID-19 and DMTs

Have just been told by my MS Nurse at Charing Cross Hospital, London that letters are about to go out to suspend therapies because of the COVID-19 crisis.

I was talking to her about something else so did not have my journo hat on.

It sounded like a general suspension for the time being!
