Short Bio

I was diagnosed with RRMS in 1992, but it was changed to PPMS last year. My neurologist feels that I was misdiagnosed – either unintentionally or intentionally due to the lack of treatments for PPMS until recently and insurance coverage. It does make sense as I never was able to discern relapses, I have had steady worsening, and my symptoms have never had more than a very small amount of recovery after they first appear. My primary symptoms are foot drop, weakness in the legs, spasms, and fatigue. Within the last two years, I have gone from walking unaided for short distances and with a cane or scooter for longer distances, to using a cane full-time, to using a rolling walker full-time, and now I am using a wheelchair. I have very little vision in my right eye from an optic neuritis attack on Mother’s Day of 2001. I have been on most of the MS medications with no success, and I started Ocrevus in November of 2017 I have also struggled with chronic depression since I was a teen. I am a single mom with two children. My son is 24 and my daughter is 18. They both have special needs, and they are the light of my life and I am so thankful for them. I am a mental health counselor and work at an agency that helps clients with mental illnesses reach life role goals, such as employment, education, living independently, and improving social relationships. I like to read, watch TV, play video games, and listen to music.
