Journalist With MS Explains the Importance of Stretching

Trevis Gleason is a food journalist who also writes about his journey with secondary-progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS). Gleason was diagnosed with the disease in 2001 and has written many blog posts and articles about his life with MS and has also published a book called Chef Interrupted.

In this article, he writes about how he’s out of shape and that with help from his wife, he’s embarked on a stretching program. Gleason explains how important it is for people with multiple sclerosis to stretch each day and details some of the guidelines set out by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. He admits that his balance is not as good as it used to be and he needs a little assistance when stretching and that it’s perfectly OK for MS patients to do stretches using a wall or chair (or another person) as support.

Gleason says that although the stretching hasn’t improved his balance or spasticity he does feel more flexible and he actually enjoys his half hour regimen each day. Find out more about Gleason’s stretching program here.
