This year, Multiple Sclerosis News Today will offer daily follow-up coverage of the 2016 annual European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) congress in London from September 14-17.  Here are seven facts about the congress you may not know:


1. The first major ECTRIMS congress was held in Copenhagen in 1996 and had 800 delegates.

2. Copenhagen has hosted the conference twice, the second time in 2013 there were about 7,000 delegates.

3. This year’s London congress is expected to the biggest one yet with an estimated 9,000 delegates attending.

4. The ECTRIMS committee has council members from 37 different countries.

5. Every three years ECTRIMS will partner with ACTRIMS (the U.S. and Canadian organization) to hold a joint congress.

6. Invited speakers will come from all over the world, with representatives from the U.S., Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Singapore, Russia, Israel, Turkey and many other countries.

7. The venue of this year’s ECTRIMS congress is London’s Royal Victoria Dock along the River Thames not far from the Tower of London.
