Do you usually get contrast when getting an MRI?

MemberMay 18, 2026 at 12:16 pmI used to get contrast with my MRIs, but my most recent one (10th May) I didn’t get it. Was a bit confused until I read that something to do with AI/advancing technology, the images capture everything!

I know for my past MRIs, the machine was a specific model and didn’t need contrast!

MemberMay 18, 2026 at 10:47 pmI’ve always gotten the contrast, but I’m hoping that the facility I use has adopted me the AI based Imaging that doesn’t require because that would cut the time in half. I’m not claustrophobic and I’ve got about 40% hearing loss, so I’ve even fallen asleep inside the before but I still wouldn’t say that the experience will make my top 10 list.

MemberMay 20, 2026 at 1:29 pmI think I’ve gotten a leg twitch in there, but since they’re focused on my head and neck, it didn’t matter. I did sneeze and ruin a series of pictures once.
I do have an implanted metal baclofen pump, but it’s titanium and MRI safe. They still freak out about it every time even when I explain that it’s the same one that’s been there the last eight times they’ve scanned me.
They always tell me to make sure and let them know if I feel it start moving. I always reassure them that if this hockey puck size piece of metal starts trying leap out of my body I’ll be sure to let them know. In fact I’ll probably let the entire Hospital know. That just doesn’t seem like something you would want to keep to yourself.
