I had a lot of responses to my column about slow motility and constipation. Readers suggested everything from high-fiber cereal, flax, chia seeds, medical specialists, pelvic floor physical therapy, and an electro-stimulating device. I knew I wasn’t the only one experiencing bowel incontinence, but apparently, this is a concern for a lot of people with multiple sclerosis.

What are your thoughts on what works for you and what doesn’t?

i m so glad to read your post. I have no peristalsis ( motility) in my esophagus , a very sluggish GI Track and a recent liquid stool which just ended a two month spell. My abdomen is always distended, painful and burning. All tests WNL. If i could only manage my BM frequency but the nerves are failing. I have tried everything. Exercise is tough as independence is slacking.

My abdomen often feels bloated and distended too. When my kids were babies, you could look at them and tell when they were constipated, or bloated. I wonder if i look that way? I know it makes me fussy!
