What questions do you wish your doctor asked you?
I received a comment on a recent column that posed a question I didn’t have an answer for, and to be honest, hadn’t really considered. My column was about asking a lot of questions of my doctor and making a point that he or she should be just fine with my curiosity about my own condition.
A reader wanted to know what “why” type questions I wish the doctor had asked me.
I suppose that I want the doctor to ask questions about my personal lived experience with multiple sclerosis. Why don’t you want to try this new medication? Why does traveling overnight pose such a problem for you?
I was always taught to treat the patient, not the disease, and there are probably many, many questions that could be asked to decide how best to treat the patient.
