Columnist Debi Wilson describes the “spoon theory,” which is an imaginative aid used to explain how precious energy is to those with chronic illness. Learn more about spoon theory here.

Are you familiar with the “spoon theory”? If so, have you ever used it to try to explain your condition to someone? Did you find it helpful?

Earlier this month I wrote “I’m too tired to write tonight.” I feel close to that again right now. For me it’s the worst thing about my MS…and telling someone that I’ve used up my “spoons” for the day just doesn’t cut it.

The spoon theory is just an example. Invented to help people create a visual of the labored fatigue we experience with MS. Just by saying we are so tired does not help to show the severity of the fatigue.
