#MSVirtual2020 – Remyelination Mainly Conducted by Pre-existing Myelin-producing Cells, Study Finds

A Monty Python sketch character was Gumby whose catchphrase was a deeply growled ‘My brain hurts!’ I bring this up as this latest research report from #MSVirtual2020 is about remyelination in our MS brains and using mine I hope I’ve broken it down correctly.

There is remyelination [the replacing of the fatty substance on our neurons that are own immune system attacks and strips away] but this is carried out by the Oligodendrocytes cells that are already there.

The conclusion of the study is that remyelination starts immediately after demyelination.

My guess is this is a far slower process than our attacks are!

    What do I know?

    ‘My brain hurts!’
