Biogen IdecCambridge, Massachusetts-based Biogen Idec has just announced a new support program for people living with multiple sclerosis (MS) that encourages patients to turn their attention to daily activities that enhance their emotional and mental state. The newly launched MS Blueprint program assists patients and caregivers in setting positive and realistic goals, personalizing their own MS Blueprint, and taking control of their disease at a pace they are comfortable with.

The program was designed with ‘happiness expert,’ Gretchen Rubin‘s New York Times best-selling book in mind, The Happiness Project. The company has designated Rubin as an ambassador for MS Blueprint, so she can more closely and effectively communicate her tried and tested tips on how to best enjoy each day. She hopes her advice inspires MS patients and caregivers to face the disease, but also see the silver lining and the good in everything so as to live a more positive life.

MS Blueprint is the product of the joint efforts of Biogen Idec, the International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Nurses (IOMSN), Can Do MS, and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (MSF). Some of its highlights include providing users with a number of different themes to choose from, such as Mind & Spirit and Heart & Home, as well as a wide range of highly customizable activities. The blueprint concretizes patients’ short term goals and provides a guide on how to not let MS get in the way of self-improvement. Additionally, the website provides patients information on their condition.

MS BlueprintRubin believes her partnership with Biogen Idec for the MS Blueprint is a perfect fit, as her principles for living a happier life have touched many lives, and would largely benefit those affected by this neurodegenerative, incurable disease. Fundamental to The Happiness Project and the MS Blueprint is encouraging patients to value even the smallest of steps, as it is finding joy in the little things that make for a more positive outlook.

Founded in 1978, Biogen Idec continues to provide novel solutions to neurodegenerative, haematologic, and autoimmune diseases. Some of its approved medications for MS include Avonex, Tecfidera, and Plegridy, with several others still in the pipeline.
