Mirla Ávila, MD, FAAN

Dr. Mirla Ávila is a board-certified neurologist and fellowship-trained Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology specialist with more than a decade of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of complex neurological and autoimmune disorders and Neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinsons and Alzheimers disease. Throughout her academic medical career, Dr. Ávila has developed particular expertise in Multiple Sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), and other neuroimmunological conditions. Her work has encompassed clinical care, medical education, research, and the training and mentorship of future physicians. Dr. Ávila spent approximately 13 years at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas, where she cared for patients with Multiple Sclerosis and other neurological disorders while contributing to academic medicine, research, and education. Her scholarly work has included research presented at national scientific meetings, including ACTRIMS, with a focus on Multiple Sclerosis and neuroimmunology. A Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN), Dr. Ávila is committed to combining evidence-based medicine with compassionate, individualized patient care. She is particularly passionate about helping patients understand their neurological conditions and empowering them to participate actively in decisions about their health. Dr. Ávila is now continuing her medical career in Miami, Florida, bringing her experience to the South Florida community. She also has a growing interest in preventive neurology, including the relationship between brain health, lifestyle, inflammation, and long-term neurological wellness. Beyond the clinic, Dr. Ávila is passionate about making neuroscience and neurological health accessible to the public through patient education and community outreach. Outside of medicine Dr Avila is a recording artist and voting member of the Grammy and latin Grammy contributing to unite the bridge between art and science.
