A&W Food Services of Canada is celebrating its “Burgers to Beat MS” day on Thursday, Aug. 25, and for an 8th year will donate $1 for each Teen Burger sold at any of its 860 restaurants nationwide to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada (MSSC).
Through such campaigns, A&W has raised over $8 million since 2009 to support global research efforts toward a cure and programs that serve Canadians with multiple sclerosis (MS)
In addition to buying a Teen Burger, customers may donate directly by rounding up their bill at the register, purchasing $2 paper cutouts, and dropping money into in-store donation mugs. All funds collected will support activities aimed at helping people with MS.
“Through our partnership with A&W, I have been astonished by the generosity of the A&W family and the support of their guests each year during this event,” Yves Savoie, president and chief executive officer of MSSC, said in a press release. “I am so very proud of the work we do together with A&W in making real progress in MS research and improving the lives of Canadians living with MS. We could not do this without the support of the many Canadians who join us in the fight to end MS on Burgers to Beat MS day.”
Canada has the highest rate of MS in the world, with one in every 340 people being affected by the disease. It is also one of the most common neurological diseases among young adults, attacking the central nervous system (CNS) and affecting vision, memory or balance. Diagnoses usually come between the ages of 15 and 40.
A number of Burgers to Beat MS events are also planned for Thursday, including A&W Root Beer float stands, music and games. Anyone is welcome to get involved and join the #BurgersToBeatMS conversation on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
A&W has also committed to donate $1 to the MS Society (up to $20,000) for every share of its Burgers to Beat MS video on Facebook, also available for viewing below.
