MS Views and News Announces August Educational Events
The non-profit organization MS News and Views (MSVN) announced that it will host four educational events during the month of August for both patients and other people interested in learning more about multiple sclerosis (MS). The educational events reflect the organization’s ongoing mission, which is to collect, present and distribute information about the disease through the publication of articles, videos and local and regional presentations and events throughout the country.
The four events to be hosted by MS News and Views in August will be held in Florida and Alabama and will feature medical experts leading dynamic presentations and discussions. The events will touch on a wide range of topics, including the management of the disease and specific problems that affect the MS community to improve knowledge, education, advocacy and service, as well as empower and enhance the quality of life of patients who suffer from MS.
On August 4th, the “Complementary & Alternative Therapies for Multiple Sclerosis” event will take place at Signature Grand Hotel in Davie, Florida. Jack Burks, MD, the guest speaker at the event and a neurologist, will discuss the risks and benefits of alternative therapies as well as nutrition in an effort to encourage awareness and wellness. Patricia Isis, PhD, ATR-BC, LMHC, ATCS and Rosa Santana, a Certified Yoga Instructor will also speak about stress reduction and relaxation techniques, as well as adaptive yoga.
The second event will take place at the Holiday Inn Daytona Beach LPGA in Daytona, Florida on August 12th. During the “MS Medication Landscape” event, guest speaker Constance B. Easterling, MSN, ARNP, MSCN, will discuss current treatments and their specific uses, as well as adherence, compliance, gait issues and MS relapse. On August 19th, nutrition will be the main theme discussed at the event “Eating Healthy for MS,” which will take place at La Isla Kendall in Miami, Florida.
The last event scheduled for the month of August is titled “Managing the Invisible Symptom of MS” and will take place at Central-Coosa in Montgomery, Alabama. The guest speaker Emily Riser, MD from the Tanner MS Center in Birmingham will discuss adherence, compliance, MS relapse and the management of invisible symptoms related to the disease, such as fatigue, memory, depression, pain, bladder and vision problems.
Registration for all programs begins at 5:50 pm followed by the presentations and a complimentary dinner for all attendees. MS Views and News is organizing all of the programs with support from Genzyme, Teva, NeuroScience and Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals.
