MS Views and News Announces August Educational Events
The non-profit organization MSĀ News and ViewsĀ (MSVN) announced that it will host four educational events during the month of August for both patients and other peopleĀ interested in learning more aboutĀ multiple sclerosis (MS). The educational events reflectĀ the organization’s ongoing mission, which is to collect, present and distribute information about the disease through the publication ofĀ articles, videos and local and regionalĀ presentations and events throughout the country.
The four events to be hosted by MS News and Views in August will be held in Florida and Alabama and will feature medical experts leading dynamic presentations and discussions. The events will touch onĀ a wide range ofĀ topics, includingĀ the management of the disease and specific problems that affect the MS community toĀ improve knowledge, education, advocacy and service, as well as empower and enhance the quality of life of patients who suffer from MS.
On August 4th, the “Complementary & Alternative Therapies for Multiple Sclerosis” event will take place atĀ Signature Grand Hotel inĀ Davie, Florida. Jack Burks, MD, the guest speaker at the event and a neurologist, will discuss the risks and benefits of alternative therapies as well as nutrition in an effort to encourageĀ awareness and wellness.Ā Patricia Isis, PhD, ATR-BC, LMHC, ATCS andĀ Rosa Santana, a Certified Yoga Instructor will also speak about stress reduction and relaxation techniques, as well asĀ adaptive yoga.
The second event will take place at the Holiday Inn Daytona Beach LPGA in Daytona, Florida on August 12th. During theĀ “MS Medication Landscape” event, guest speakerĀ Constance B. Easterling, MSN, ARNP, MSCN, will discuss current treatments and their specificĀ uses, as well asĀ adherence, compliance, gait issuesĀ andĀ MS relapse. On August 19th, nutrition will be the main theme discussed atĀ the event “Eating Healthy for MS,” which willĀ take place at La Isla Kendall in Miami, Florida.
The last event scheduled forĀ the month of August is titled “Managing the Invisible Symptom of MS” and will take placeĀ atĀ Central-Coosa in Montgomery, Alabama. The guest speaker Emily Riser, MD from the Tanner MS Center in Birmingham will discuss adherence, compliance, MS relapse and the management of invisible symptoms related to the disease, such as fatigue, memory, depression, pain, bladder and visionĀ problems.
Registration for all programs begins at 5:50 pm followed by the presentations and a complimentary dinner for all attendees. MS Views and News is organizing all of the programs with support from Genzyme, Teva, NeuroScience and Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals.
